GRANOT LOMA
The Granot
Loma is a fifty-room log lodge near Marquette, Michigan, with 5,000 acres of
woodland, his-an d-hers
wine cellars, a nine-car garage and a "gentleman’s farm and barns".
Located on a point, Lake Superior buffeted this lodge on three sides for
sixty years. It was handcrafted in wood logs and stone.
This historic lodge even features its own
boathouse
Listed on the registry for National
Historic Places, Granot Loma is reminiscent of the “great camps” that were
built during the dawn of the 20th century out East in the Adirondack
Mountains. Like the Rockefellers and Vander bilt's,
the Kaufman's sought natural surroundings as respite from their otherwise
chaotic lives in the cities. The “camps” they had built in the quiet woods
offered relaxation as well as rejuvenation and inspiration.
