MARQUETTE - The Lake Superior Theatre in downtown Marquette, Michigan has announced its sixteenth summer season 2014 offerings. Scheduled performances are:

Pippin (musical)
Book by  Roger O. Hirson. Music and Lyrics by  Stephen Schwartz
July 9-13 and July 16-20 at 7:30 p.m.
RATED PG-13 FOR ADULT CONTENT

Heir to the Frankish throne, the young prince PIPPIN is in search of the secret to true happiness and fulfillment. He seeks it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh and the intrigues of political power (after disposing of his father King Charlemagne the Great). In the end, though, Pippin finds happiness lies not in extraordinary endeavors, but rather the un-extraordinary moments that happen every day.   With an unforgettable score from musical theater giant Stephen Schwartz (WICKED, GODSPELL, CHILDREN OF EDEN), PIPPIN's message is universal, and the Lake Superior Theatre production boasts an outstanding cast of performers!

I Do! I Do! (musical)
Book by  Tom Jones. Music by  Harvey Schmidt. Lyrics by  Tom Jones
Based on The Fourposter by Jan de Hartog
July 23-27 and July 30-August 3 at 7:30 p.m.
RATED PG

A touching musical of two soul mates navigating the perils of life featuring amazing Maggie and Amy Malaney, Patrick Bradley, and Marty Martello. The two-character story spans fifty years, from 1895 to 1945, as it focuses on the ups and downs experienced by Agnes and Michael Snow throughout their marriage.  From the wedding night innocence of ''Goodnight'', to the hat-and-cane sophistication of ''It's A Well-Known Fact'', to the fun vamping of ''Flaming Agnes'', to the bouncy ''When The Kids Get Married'', to the 11:00 ballad ''What Is A Woman?'', there is something for all musical tastes.  From suffering through affairs, the angst of raising children, and growing old together, the challenges and joys of relationships are ALL here in this wonderful score of I Do! I Do!

Narnia (youth musical)
Based on C.S. Lewis' The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
Book by Jules Tasca. Music by Thomas Tierney. Lyrics by Ted Drachman
August 7-10 and August 13-16 at 7:30 p.m.
RATED G- FAMILY FRIENDLY
Presented by Lake Superior Youth Theatre and featuring a cast of area youth.

An enchanting musical that will send your spirits soaring. The first and most famous story of C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia has become a musical presentation of this unique and enchanted world filled with creatures and spirits of myth and fable, both good and evil, demonic and transcendent. The principal inhabitants, however, are the intelligent talking animals ruled by the majestic King Aslan, the great lion of Narnia. Though Aslan is often absent from the land (so that his very existence is doubted by some), he returns when the need for him is greatest. And entering Narnia at a moment of high adventure are some children—plucked from our world in unexpected ways to help Narnia and to learn from their Narnia odyssey lessons of courage, unselfishness and wisdom that will help them grow.

King Lear
by William Shakespeare
Adapted by B.G. Bradley
* Performed by the Westwood Shakespeare Company
August 19-22 at 7:30 p.m.
RATED PG FOR VIOLENCE

450 years after the birth of William Shakespeare, his plays are still going strong. King Lear is recognized as one of his greatest. It is the story of an ancient British King who divides his kingdom between his daughters in hopes of "shaking all cares and business from his age" and "conferring them on younger strengths", but something goes drastically wrong with his plan, civil war and madness ensue, and so does a great questioning about the meaning of love, life, honor, duty, and truth. Lear is a play for the ages. Don't miss some of the area's finest actors in some of Shakespeare's finest roles.
